ReSieve Help File
Using ReSieve with other proxies
If you use an email scanning proxy that has changed your
email setting, then ReSieve won't work straight out of the box, the email proxy will grab
them instead. You need to configure ReSieve to talk to the
email scanner. (If your virus scanner didn't change your email
POP3 server setting then there is no need to follow these
instructions).
(So, basically, emails get downloaded by the scanner,
passed to ReSieve, and then - finally - passed to your email
program.)
Now, since different brands of email scanners work
differently, we'll work like this:
- Disable the email scanner and return your settings to
normal.
- Tell ReSieve to listen for connections on a different
port.
- Tell your email program to connect to ReSieve on a
different port.
- Re-enable your email scanner with the new settings.
Proxy Chaining
ReSieve is an email proxy. In the simplest possible
installation, ReSieve is a middleman that passes along
communications between your email client and your email
server.
A mail client sends a request through ReSieve, and ReSieve
to the mail
server to fetch your email. The mail server responds by sending the
email to ReSieve which filters the email with categories or
tags and delivers them immediately to the mail client.
If you are using any additional email proxies with ReSieve such as certain antivirus software, YahooPOPs, or Hotmail,
you need to configure them to work together in a daisy chained
fashion like so:
To Disable your e-mail scanner
Read your RTFM from the manufacturer's.
Change ReSieve's port
Connect to your ReSieve device, click config/config and change
your POP3 Listen Port to any number we Click Apply.
Change your email program's port
Just choose your email program and follow the
column down. While these instructions might look complicated,
they actually only take about two minutes - and it's hard to
go wrong. (Just in case, make a note of your original settings
in case you need to go back.
